The shrimp omelette is to die for! 30A's, Destin and this side of the Gulf's BEST kept breakfast spot. No lines like the Donut hole. FRESH squeezed OJ and authentic Mexican breakfast. AND... Not expensive like everything else along 30A!

  • Andi W.

A couple of years ago, my family went out for breakfast to try the Donut Hole Restaurant. Line was out the door. So we gave up. Went to get gas and asked the man working where we could go get breakfast. I quote "if you want overpriced, poor quality food, go to donut hole. If you want great prices and great food, go to Don Pedro's". He was right! The food is amazing and fairly priced. Staff is fun and engaging. We now make this a yearly stop several times a week on our annual family vacation. Love this place and will always come back! The chilaquilas are my personal favorite!

  • Johanna H.

Went for breakfast this morning and it was amazing. The service was very good. Attentive, but not overly annoying. Food was wonderful! Had the chilaquiles with scrambled eggs, home fries, and biscuits. It was so good!! Definitely recommend checking this spot out. :)

We ended up here after too long of a wait at Stinkys and Bayou Bills...the service and food came out quickly but nothing amazing about this place. Nothing bad, just nothing more than your everyday Mexican food.

    (3)
  • Hal R.

I got the biscuits, gravy, and eggs. Jim's Special. First off, mine was great. The OJ was real and not mass produced. Loved that. My wife's food, however, was not a great experience. There were three huge long hairs in her hash browns. They were painfully obvious on the very top of the food. Not cool. Good food, but that stuff needs to be checked.

  • Michael K.

This place is awesome. Best Mexican food in this area, especially for the price. And they serve breakfast!! They make their own hot sauce which is the best I've ever had

    (4)
  • Kasey R.

Been here twice in two days during my Destin vacation. The food is awesome And the service is warm and welcoming. They have a great breakfast burrito. I suggest that with jalapeños! I don't really have anything negative to say about don Pedro's but if you're in the area, check it out!

  • Erica M.

My husband heard this place had a great breakfast and boy was he right! I was hesitant to go to a "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant for breakfast while entertaining friends from out of town, but I'm so glad we did. It was very busy, but we did not have to wait on a table and service was prompt and pleasant. Everyone loved their meals, which included the blt, breakfast burrito, and omelet. The least favorite was the huevos rancheros, but only because the tortilla was not fried or toasted (so became soggy under the eggs, cheese and salsa). By far, the chiliaquiles we had on the side were the BEST! Next time, I'll have that as my meal (which is an option on their menu). Will definitely return.

We read all the great reviews of Don Pedro's and decided we should try, as well as support the local business. Well, we won't come back. If you want microwaved eggs, Pace picante sauce, stale chips, instant grits from a box, and basically be treated bad because you don't live there or because you don't speak spanish, then this is the place for you. Just a disgrace and they should take more pride in the product as well as customer service. We should've known after we asked for chips and salsa, was told they don't have it ready (breakfast), but 30 seconds later they serve chips and salsa to some local hispanics, that this was going to be bad experience! It's sad. Also, to add to my point above, we sat down and three tables were waiting for their food, we ordered, then two hispanics came in 5 minutes after us, order a steak breakfast, then had their food before us and the others were served...you be the judge, I just say I will choose to go somewhere else next time. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I want to warn those that expect more for the money they spend. P.S. - if you are the owner of this place and reading this review, please change as we've been coming to this area for 20 years and have family here...we and them deserve better.

We've lived here for over five years and finally decided to stop in BC our breakfast options are pretty limited. Our first visit was on Fathers Day and it was an awesome experience. Friendly is an understatement, two of the male staff came up to the table and in front of my wife and two kids wished me a happy Fathers Day, one gave me a surprising hug. I turned to my wife in shock, I've never had anyone make us feel so welcome, especially on the first visit. The food was incredible, I'm not sure what Travis the reviewer below was talking about but clearly by the number of excellent reviews he had a uniquely bad experience, which is unfortunate but not the norm. The food was fresh, we waited no longer than five minutes after ordering to receive our dishes and the serving size was more than generous. We have gone back three additional times since Father's Day, trying numerous other items on the menu and we have not been disappointed yet. Establishment is clean, they have excellent standards in place and the execution of the dishes and timely service make it a win. We look forward to bringing our family there for years to come.

  • Jim R.

Pretty good...not jarred salsa and no sign of pace. Like most american mexican joints they use can tomatoes and add cilantro onion and seasoning. Steak burrito is goon and prices are fare:)

    (4)
  • Toni P.

Terrible terrible terrible service. We came for breakfast and knew it was going to be bad when we sat down and the table across from us were raising their coffee cup saying, "can we get a refill? How hard is it to get a refill around here?" Should have gotten up and left right then and there. Then our food came out about 20min later and it tasted like salsa out of a jar, shredded cheese out of a bag (seriously, can't even shred cheese from the block!?), and a tortilla straight from the grocery store. DO NOT come here if you want authentic Mexican fare. Seriously. Save your money or if you'd like to develop patience... stay and eat.

  • Jisun J.

We went there for breakfast and it was amazing. I had the chilaquiles and my husband had the huevos a la mexicana. Both of the dishes were delicious, but I like my husbands dish better. If you want something different other than a regular American breakfast this is the place to go. The price, the ambiance and the portion was right.

  • Jeff M.

Just tried this recently. The tamales are excellent - the real-deal, hand-made - a rare find these days. I wish the salsa was a little spicier, maybe a little more cilantro too, but it's good. The chips were great - not greasy. The cheese dip was pretty basic - could use some enhancing. I will be back for sure.

  • Rikki B.

Breakfast was delicious. Large portions. Biscuits and grits were very good. I got the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and it was large and so yummy. Hubby got French toast that came with 4 slices. Home fries were delicious and seasoned with a Spanish flair. It was just like eating at home, but better. Service was good waitress kept up with refilling the coffee and drinks

    (5)
  • Suzanna D.

It is as great as all the previous reviews say. The service was great and the prices very reasonable. My husband had the short stack with cheese grits and coffee. I had the specialty - chilaquiles with eggs, cheese grits, biscuits, and fresh squeezed orange juice. The house sauce is yummy. Everything was Great!!

this place looks different from some of the pics. sat down right away. i ordered the huevos rancheros with chiliquilles and loved it! the server was really good although they were busy. will be back.

By far the best breakfast place in town and probably one of the best kept secrets of Santa Rosa Beach. Not only is the food amazing, but the prices are really reasonable for the huge portions and the staff is amazing. One morning we specifically went in to try the breakfast and we were 45 minutes past the breakfast cutoff. They knew we had come in just to try the breakfast we had heard such great things about so they let us order breakfast. Something they certainly didn't have to do. Their lunch and dinner is great too. Some really unique and different things on the menu along with the traditional items. Salsa is so fresh and delicious. Make sure you try some of their house hot sauce too! Only thing I warn you of is that they only accept cash or check.

We ate at Don Pedros this morning, on our way out of town. Good breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito with home fries and my son has the breakfast burrito with the chilaquilles Both were quite good. Very flavorful. I would reccomend this place for breakfast or the Donut Hole (which I hear is quite good). Also, it's on the outskirts of Sandestin so you don't have to fight the traffic The Home Fries were delicous. Basically just thinly sliced potatoes fried with bell peppers and onions. Really and truly, we could have shared one breakfast burrito between us. The portions were that large. To finish it off, we shared a short-stack of chocolate chip pancakes...my son's favorite. These were two huge pancakes, enough for three people to share for desert. Ooofff I am full..

Nice place with quality food and nice selection of American and Mexican breakfast. Lots of omelettes, huevos rancheros, even French toast! No longer a bakery but the OJ is very fresh squeezed.

AMAZING!!!! We stopped in for breakfast & it was fantastic!!! We all cleaned our plates. Also their house sauce they have on the table is to die for!!! We bought some to take home because it was so good!

  • Rebecca W.

I love Mexican food, I could eat it everyday! But both times I've ordered carry out from Don Pedro's in Santa Rosa beach it has been a big disappointment. The cheese dip is too thick and has no flavor (which is a bummer because the cheese dip is the best part of the meal!). I'm never given my entire order (tortillas missing, an entire meal missing, or the cheese dip not in the bag). I was also charged $4.95 per To-Go chip and salsa (even when ordering a cheese dip!) and was told that chips and salsa do not come with take out orders. The food itself does not taste bad, but it's always a big mess inside the To-Go boxes. I would go to Don Pedro's again only if Pepito's or La Rumba was closed.

  • Heather D.

Terrible. We saw all the other reviews and thought we would give this local establishment a chance. Big mistake. My husband asked for chips and salsa and was told they weren't ready yet and then I saw the same server give chips and salsa to a local at the bar...really? Being from Texas, if this is what you call authentic Hispanic food, then you have disgraced your culture! If you want salsa from a jar, stale chips, instant grits and microwaved food then this place will suite you well. We have been coming to Destin every year for twenty years and have family who live here and always want to give local restaurants a chance, but we will never come back to this establishment.

Fantastic selection: Mexican eggs with chorizo, home fries (potatoes with a warm tomato sauce), warm soft biscuits, banana but pancakes, crisp bacon, everything was very tasty, and great service. Highly recommend!

  • Lauren F.

An absolute must for breakfast!!!! The food is DELICIOUS!!!!!! The orange juice alone is worth stopping in for, nothing like fresh squeezed OJ!! Just give Don Pedro's a try you won't be disappointed! Local biscuits are yummy along with the home fries and the breakfast burrito!! Chilaquiles is also awesome!!!

  • Emily A.

This is my grandparent's favorite place in the Destin area. They know all the staff! It's a must visit for breakfast every time I'm in town. This morning I ordered a cheese omelet plus avocado. I will now call myself a genius. It was SO GOOD! They used at least an entire avocado, I was in heaven. The home fries that came with it were greasy crispy potato round deliciousness. My grandparents love their chiliquilos (tortilla chips slathered with stuff) but everything people ordered around me looked delicious. Even the fruit cup was fresh and delicious. Try it out, but remember: cash only!

    (4)
  • Ron B.

Stopped in for breakfast after being put off by the long line at the nearby Donut Hole Bakery. The food we ordered (both American and Mexican) was very good and reasonably priced. The chilaquiles were new to us but very tasty. We'd order them again in a heartbeat. Bring cash or a check (local only?) as they don't take cards; however, they do have an ATM inside for those diners who don't come prepared.

    (4)
  • Andrew L.

Huevos rancheros with chilaquiles...awesome! Wife had banana nut pancakes. Great breakfast without a wait! I'd call to confirm location, we had some issues with multiple Don Pedro's.

  • Vince R.

We went for lunch with very high expectations based on the previous reviews. The Good: The main meals were excellent. The chimichanga turned out to be light and slightly crispy. The tacos al pastor were up there with the best I have had although they had too much oil coming off of them. Needs Work: The salsa was a bit off for me, but this is pretty subjective for fans of Mexican food. My wife said it was ok. Lacking: The service was friendly but very slow considering it wasn't busy. This place seems to be known for their breakfast foods, so maybe by lunch the energy levels are down. The speed of service was my biggest complaint. The chips were thick and slightly hard. The menu states that the first bowl of chips and salsa was on the house but that further bowls of either would cost more. We were not charged for the extra salsa and chips, but it's rare to see this on a Mexican menu.

This is the Don Pedros east of Sandestin & Sacred Heart Hospital. Haven't tried the one at Miramar Beach, but understand are relatives. Best and also least expensive Mexican around here. LaPaz is good, but far more expensive, and different style of Mexican. These make their own chips and salsa, and have heard they have awesome breakfast where people standing waiting for a seat. Very friendly owners and happy to have your business. Lived her over 40 yrs. and just discovered this secret since moved out of downtown Destin.

I 100% have Google Maps to credit for discovering this little gem. Typed in "coffee" and found this up the road a few miles. One thing I'm curious of is why they call themselves coffee and bakery. I didn't see a specialized version of either of those during my dining, but that's neither here nor there. What is here and there is their food. I partook in a breakfast sandwich with ham, egg, and cheese and a side of their homeFRIIIIIES. Oh LAWD. These people know how to make homeFRIIIIIIIES. So good. The b'fast fare is simple, yet tasty, and has made them an obviously popular local hangout. I saw everyone from tourists, to regulars on a Sunday morning. They were constantly busy. Friendly service and filled beverages made for a great experience. Would love to go back.

We've been to so many Mexican Restaurants all over the USA since we Are RV'ers. This rates one of the best we've been too. First rate authentic made from scratch beans, rice, shredded chicken and beef. Salsa is wonderful. Entree comes with guacamole and fresh diced tomatoes and onions. WOW!! I'll give this place 10 stars. Their breakfast is wonderful too.

  • Scott M.

Looks and feels like one of those simple Ameri-Mexican places, but all of the stuff is a notch or so above the usual. The beans have a nice smoky flavor, the salsa has a little kick to it and they have more authentic-type tacos, barbacoa, pastor and pollo. Fast, friendly and tasty.

Southern Cafe meets Mexican Mama's House in this inconspicuous little cafe and bakery right on Hwy. 98. Breakfast is fantastic - all the usual suspects with great additions such as Chilaquiles and Avocados as side orders. The prices are great and a little incredibly so - The Local's Special for a whopping $4.95 includes 2 eggs, choice of grits, hashbrowns, or pancakes, toast or biscuits, and ham, sausage, or bacon. I'm full thinking about it... It's super-casual (great place for a hangover feeding); Admittedly and embarrisngly, I've even been there in my "comfy pants" without washing my face....but no one noticed or cared! While the location and interior decor leave a lot to be desired, the staff is super-friendly and always on the move. Great daily bakery items and the flan is superb.... Weekends are busy - especially with the post-church crowd BUT! Here is where you'll also find South Walton's finest - watch the firemen and paramedics flock to Don Pedro's en masse. , . Yum. ;) Now pass the chilaquiles and a crossword... and, oh god...bring on the coffee!

This little strip mall restaurant came highly recommended by someone who knows what I like right before I left on an impromptu trip to the gulf. They couldn't have been more right! We ended up eating breakfast there every day of our vacation. Ask for Carrie. She knows what time it is. It's french toast time!

  • Lars K.

One of my favourite mexican places. Top notch food and service. Home made salsa, cheese dip, and chips. You can even ask for some to go. I eat there everytime I am in the area and have never been disatisfied. Most mexican places don't hold a candle to this place. Yes, it is in a strip mall and has good prices. But don't discount the food this place produces.

On the way to the Santa Rosa Beach "Bark Park", we decided that we were in the mood for some Mexican. After passing the usual haunts in Destin (meh), we were getting into the boondocks and growing desperate. We spotted "Don Pedro's" in a strip mall and swung in. After grabbing a seat at a picnic table outside, we began to review the menu. What is this? Burgers? Po Boys? Club Sandwiches? Oh, page 2, I guess. Ah, standard Mexican fare. I grab a steak burrito and she orders the steak al mexicana (or something). I'm still pretty leery of what to expect after seeing page 1 of the menu when I overhear the server ask the folks at the next table if they would like to see the breakfast menu. "No", replies the diner. "I'll take a pile of flapjacks and 2 eggs, overeasy." Out comes our salsa and queso. The salsa is runny but tastes great. The cheese dip is just that. Nothing but queso. No peppers or tomatoes or anything of the like in there. It was also superb. No complaints with it. Her, platter, was more like a fajita platter, without the sizzle. Great, tender steak with grilled onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers with beans, cheese, Mexican rice and tortillas. I'll also mention that the beans were home made and excellent! My burrito did not disappoint. It was filled with those same beans, the same tender juicy steak, onions, peppers, and topped with a cilantro based (very very good) verde sauce and cheese. Also came with rice. I hear their breakfast is also unusually good. This locale isnt much to look at, but GO. This is now our new Sunday tradition. Fabulous food and a new token Mexican restaurant for us! Thank GOD.

Excellent breakfast. Prices are a little high, but only a dollar or so higher than they should be. I really enjoyed the Huevos A la Mexicana - scrambled egges with tomatoes, peppers, oniones, chorizo, and jalapeno peppers. Home fries are fantastic. Service can be slow when they are crowded. Does not accept credit cards.

Pretty good...not jarred salsa and no sign of pace. Like most american mexican joints they use can tomatoes and add cilantro onion and seasoning. Steak burrito is goon and prices are fare:)

Pastor tacos were good. Beer was cold. Service was good. A nice spot to grab tacos.

This little strip mall restaurant came highly recommended by someone who knows what I like right before I left on an impromptu trip to the gulf. They couldn't have been more right! We ended up eating breakfast there every day of our vacation. Ask for Carrie. She knows what time it is. It's french toast time!

Thank GOD.

Huevos rancheros with chilaquiles...awesome! Wife had banana nut pancakes. Great breakfast without a wait! I'd call to confirm location, we had some issues with multiple Don Pedro's.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
